According to the financial advice website unbiased.co.uk, 57 per cent of adults in the UK have no will. Of those who don't, one in 10 say the cost is putting them off.
Solicitors charge upwards of £300 for a basic Will for one person after they add in all their costs and upwards of £1,000 for inheritance tax advice. Often with hidden costs and fees that only your Executors become aware of. DIY wills cost around £20, with some on the internet as cheap as £9.95. This could be a false economy. "Cutting corners by using a DIY Will service could cause even more problems for those left behind than not having one at all," says Bryan Allworthy at yWill a specialist local Will writer. "The average person simply doesn't have the knowledge or ability to draw up legal documents themselves, even for what appears to be the most straightforward circumstances."
Errors can invalidate the Will or lead to substantial legal costs. "DIY Wills are often a good source of litigation income for lawyers," Bryan Allworthy goes on to add.
yWill has a fixed price policy, starting at £90 for a basic Will, with no up-selling and no additional fees. Do you really want to pay solicitors high fees?. Can you really afford a DIY Will?
